Summary
The Code of Conduct for BSides Kristiansand outlines the expectations for behavior during the event. Our goal is to ensure a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants. Attendees are expected to conduct themselves with respect and professionalism at all times. This means being a decent human being, making everyone feel welcome and comfortable without exception, and participating with a focus on learning and networking. These expectations are straightforward and should be easy to follow. However, if anyone fails to adhere to these principles and causes discomfort or distress to others, they will be asked to leave the event.
Who is This For?
The Code of Conduct applies to everyone involved in the event, including attendees, speakers, sponsors, partners, vendors, facilities staff, and event organizers. As a community-driven conference, BSides Kristiansand values inclusion and expects all participants to honor this principle. If you have any questions or concerns about whether an action might violate the Code of Conduct, please contact us at info@bsideskrs.no.
Purpose
BSides Kristiansand is designed to be an event where people can learn, share knowledge, and build connections. We are committed to ensuring that the event is a safe, enjoyable, and inclusive space for everyone, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age, sexuality, religion, disability, socioeconomic background, or experience. Harassment, bullying, or abusive behavior is unacceptable and will be addressed promptly to maintain a positive environment for all attendees.
Why We Need a Code of Conduct
Unfortunately, unwanted behaviors, including harassment and discrimination, still occur at events. This Code of Conduct serves to provide clarity about what constitutes unacceptable behavior and to establish processes for addressing issues when they arise. By defining acceptable behavior and offering a clear reporting mechanism, we aim to ensure that BSides Kristiansand remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone.
Acceptable Behavior
At BSides Kristiansand, all participants are expected to be professional, courteous, and respectful at all times. Attendees should be mindful of the impact their actions may have on others. This includes respecting the venue, staff, and equipment, being polite and well-mannered in interactions, and treating everyone with dignity and respect. Personal boundaries must be honored, and a clear “no” should always be taken as definitive.
Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behavior includes any actions that are offensive, disturbing, or threatening. This may include, but is not limited to, intruding on someone’s personal space without consent, using derogatory or discriminatory language, engaging in intimidation or stalking, making unwanted sexual advances, and using offensive or inappropriate imagery or attire. Inappropriate photography or recording, repetitive disruptions during talks, and excessive or irresponsible alcohol consumption are also considered unacceptable. Attendees must not engage in behaviors that make others feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
Substance Policy
Attendees are expected to consume alcohol responsibly and must adhere to all legal restrictions regarding substances. Providing alcohol to underage individuals or using illicit drugs is strictly prohibited. Smoking is only allowed in designated areas, and additional venue-specific restrictions must also be respected.
Photo, Video, and Recording Policy
Attendees must obtain permission before photographing or recording others, including those in the background of an image. If a participant asks for a photograph to be deleted or blurred, it must be done immediately. Repeated violations of this policy may result in removal from the event.
How to Report Unacceptable Behavior
If you witness or experience unacceptable behavior, there are two ways to address it. If you feel safe, you can speak directly to the individual involved and explain why their behavior is problematic. This can sometimes lead to immediate resolution. Alternatively, you can report the behavior to BSides Kristiansand staff by approaching a staff member, sending an email to info@bsideskrs.no, or submitting an anonymous report through the event feedback form. When reporting, please include as much detail as possible, such as the time and location of the incident, names of those involved, and any witnesses. While you can report anonymously, providing additional information can help us take appropriate action.
Our Response to Reports
The BSides Kristiansand team is committed to addressing reports of unacceptable behavior promptly and professionally. We will acknowledge your report and begin an investigation as soon as possible. All reports will be handled confidentially, and all parties involved will be treated fairly and objectively. Depending on the findings, appropriate actions will be taken, such as issuing warnings, removing individuals from the event, or referring the matter to authorities if necessary. Our goal is to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future and to maintain the positive atmosphere of the event.
